Mock Draft

2019 Mock Draft (1/14/19)

  1. Arizona Cardinals: Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama

Quinnen has played himself to the point where I think that he could be the best player in the class and I think that he warrants the number one overall pick.

Arizona already has their franchise EDGE defender in Chandler Jones who has racked up 41 sacks and 9 forced fumbles during his three years in a Cardinals uniform. The interior of the Cardinals line includes Rodney Gunter, Robert Nkemdiche, and Corey Peters all rotational players that would stop you from taking a premiere talent like Quinnen.

2. San Francisco 49ers: Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State

San Francisco desperately needs an EDGE presence and Nick Bosa is among the top edge defenders to come out of the draft recently, rivaling players like his brother Joey, Khalil Mack, and Jadaveon Clowney.

The 49ers EDGE rotation featured Cassius Marsh, Dekoda Watson, and the occasional Ronald Blair and Solomon Thomas. Solly is more of an interior player as is Blair while Marsh and Watson are both rotational players at best, adding an elite EDGE presence like Nick Bosa could take the defense to another level and the entire team to become a playoff contender.

3. New York Jets: Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

The Jets traded up to the 3rd overall pick last year to take their franchise savior, Sam Darnold. Now it’s time to take the guy that will protect your franchise QB for the next decade.

Jonah Williams is an elite tackle prospect despite his lack of length and if he doesn’t pan out at tackle, he’s an All-Pro guard at the next level.

4. Oakland Raiders: Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky

When Jon Gruden signed his 10 year, 100 million dollar contract with the Raiders, they had one of the best pass rushers in the NFL in superstar Khalil Mack. Then Gruden decided to trade away his franchise cornerstone for draft capital. Well, guess what Gruden? You’re saved.

Josh Allen is one of the best pure pass rushers in this class with the elite ability to bend the edge and fluid athleticism whether you use him as a standup rusher or out of a 3-point stance. Allen will give one of the worst pass rushes in the NFL, a breath of fresh air and will give opposing QBs nightmares.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida

The Buccaneers had their first ten-sack guy since Simeon Rice this year but Jason Pierre-Paul isn’t getting any younger and is already down a couple digits, if you catch my drift, the rest of the Bucs line is full of inconsistent or aging players with the exception of Vita Vea.

Jachai Polite immediately enhances the pass rush across from JPP and has the chance to be the franchise edge rusher and a 10 sack per season guy.

6. New York Giants: Daniel Jones, QB, Duke

Eli Manning ain’t it chief, hate to inform you. He has some good games every now and then but he’s been wildly inconsistent since his last super bowl run and it’s time for a passing of the torch.

Daniel Jones is currently my QB3 but I believe he will wow Pat Shurmur with his abilities on the white board and some of his play at Duke, and to be fair to Daniel, New York is a good situation with some of the best skill position players in the NFL including Evan Engram, Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard and Odell Beckham Jr.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State

Blake Bortles is also not it chief, he was constantly benched for Cody Kessler who is actually also not it. The Jaguars window is closing and they do not have the starter at the most important position in football, they have an aging team without much space to work with.

Haskins is the clear cut QB1 in this class and him getting to 7 is a gift for Jacksonville. He should be their franchise guy for years to come.

8. Detroit Lions: Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson

Detroit needs an edge presence and I think Matt Patricia and their current edge group is full of moderate players that don’t have a very high ceiling.

While Ferrell doesn’t have a particularly high ceiling because of his lack of top end athleticism and bend, he’s fantastic in all other areas off his game, such as run defense which should turn this coaching staff’s gears.

9. Buffalo Bills: D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss

The Bills WR room currently features 2018 UDFA Robert Foster and 2017 day 2 pick Zay Jones, both guys not really very amazing despite Foster’s late season outburst.

However, throw in Ole Miss standout D.K. Metcalf and all the sudden you’re cooking with gas. D.K. will need to clean up a few things and learn the route tree more in depth but stands at 6’4″ with fantastic natural skills so he should be a stud and help out last years No. 6 overall pick in Josh Allen.

10. Denver Broncos: Drew Lock, QB, Missouri

I’m not a Drew Lock fan but this QB room is bad and Case Keenum is not the answer.

Drew has a very nice arm but he’s behind on the mental side of the game, I don’t particularly love Lock but I think this could be an okay pick.

11. Cincinnati Bengals: LB, Mack Wilson

Bengals need a Linebacker big time, Burfict is a terrible person and a declining player and the rest of the Bengals core is just meh, however the defense as a whole is actually really nice.

Mack Wilson has the ability to take this D to another level with sideline to sideline range his ability in coverage and tackling he’s an elite Linebacker prospect and a very nice pick for Cinci at 11.

12. Green Bay Packers: Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida State

The Packers EDGE group features a declining Nick Perry and a Free Agent-to-be Clay Matthews, and an intriguing player in Kyler Fackrell but more impact is needed here.

Enter FSU standout Brian Burns. He’s got elite pass rush moves and athleticism as well as a distinct ability to bend the edge which brings a new dimension to Mike Pettine’s defense.

13. Miami Dolphins: Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma

Ryan Tannehill just isn’t a franchise QB and Brock Osweiler definitely isn’t. If Brian Flores is indeed the Dolphins’ coach I’m not sure how much he will love Kyler but I’m willing to give them the best QB on the board.

Murray is only 5’9″ but he has elite mobility and a very nice arm on him, however he does struggle under pressure and obviously size is a major concern for Murray.

14. Atlanta Falcons: Ed Oliver, DT, Houston

Grady Jarrett is an elite interior defensive lineman but theres a major drop off after Jarrett where there could be another impact player in that interior.

Ed Oliver is definitely a top-5 to top-8 player in this class and him sliding to 14 is great for the Falcons. Oliver needs some refinement in his overall game but he’s an elite player for sure.

15. Washington Redskins: N’Keal Harry, WR, Arizona State

Washington needs a dominant presence on the outside after Josh Doctson really hasn’t lived up to his first round billing.

N’Keal Harry is a WR from Arizona State who stands at 6’4″ and actually has some sneaky athleticism and legit hands. N’Keal immediately boosts this Redskins Wide Receiver room.

16. Carolina Panthers: Deionte Thompson, S, Alabama

Carolina’s safetys are either old or relentlessly drug tested by the NFL so I think Carolina needs a new face in that room.

Deionte has elite range and playmaking ability even though he’s had a couple of tough games recently that saw him slide to 16. I love this pick for Carolina and I think he has pro bowl potential if he can put it all together.

17. Cleveland Browns: Byron Murphy, CB, Washington

Cleveland has an elite Corner already in Denzel Ward who can play outside and in the slot and has legit speed, but their other corner spot is a bit of a question mark.

Byron Murphy is CB1 in this class (yes, above Greedy Williams) and he’s such a good player. Byron has fluid hips, great ball skills and is very smart in coverage. He isn’t very big (6’0″, 175) so his weigh ins at the combine will be important but he’s a very good player.

18. Minnnesota Vikings: Dalton Risner, OT/OG, Kansas State

Minnesota can’t get out of the first round without picking an Interior Offensive Lineman, their line is easily one of the worst in the league.

Dalton Risner is a very good player, whether it’s at RT or Guard, I think Risner helps shore up the right side of this offensive line.

19. Tennessee Titans: Noah Fant, TE, Iowa

Delanie Walker is a very good player but towards the twilight of his career and you’re not so sure about his abilities coming off a season-ending injury in 2018.

Noah Fant is an elite talent, bordering on top-10 in this class, he has George Kittle-like upside, he’s a crazy good athlete with an insane ceiling and I love this pick for Tennessee’s offense.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers: Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

Pittsburgh has a way of drafting guys with high upside and not great things on the field, Greedy fits this mold.

Greedy had very real effort concerns on tape and they scare me away in the top-10, top-15 area and honestly I don’t know if I take him in the first round but he is 6’3″ and very fluid with his hips and a high upside if he can fix some of his mental lapses and effort things.

21. Seattle Seahawks: Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi State

Seattle has some beasts on that DL, including Frank Clark, Jarran Reed and even Poona Ford who was awesome in situational play last year. I think if they could add just one more impact piece on that line it could be one of the best in the league.

Jeffery Simmons, despite his lack of production, he is one of the best pass rushing interior lineman in this class. Simmons is very strong and agile and he will be an impact player on this Seattle line.

22. Baltimore Ravens: Marquise Brown, WR, Oklahoma

Baltimore’s receiver group is not good at all and they could definitely add another impact player.

Brown has serious game breaking speed and despite not being super natural at catching the football, I think that speed could really help Lamar Jackson.

23. Houston Texans: Yodny Cajuste, OT/OG, West Virginia

The Texans’ line is truly terrible and they need another player.

Cajuste may not be a tackle at the next level but if he is that’s great for Houston if he’s not, he would be a very good player at guard.

24. Oakland Raiders: Nasir Adderly, S, Delaware

The Raiders have kind of a revolving door at safety so getting an impact player there might be quite important for them.

Nasir is a very good player and he has the size as well as the athleticism. I love Nasir and I think he can be a impact player in this secondary.

25. Philadelphia Eagles: Devin White, LB, LSU

Philly should want another linebacker because they have a lot of injuries in that room.

Devin White brings elite athleticism and some interesting skills to this Philly team.

26. Indianapolis Colts: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Stanford

The Colts really have a high level receiver in T.Y. Hilton but do not have really anything else.

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside brings a great skills set that is virtually the opposite of Hilton’s to this Colts team to help out Andrew Luck. He also brings some great red zone ability that could pair well with Eric Ebron.

27. Oakland Raiders: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa

Oakland found a way to use Free Agent-to-be Jared Cook very well this year.

Enter T.J. Hockenson who is a very good player in all aspects of his game. Hockenson gives this Raiders team a very good threat.

28. Los Angeles Chargers: Cody Ford, OT, Oklahoma

The Chargers really need another player on that line to help protect Rivers.

Cody Ford is a heck of a player and has great value here at 28 and will hold down the fort at RT or one of their guard spots.
