Quarterbacks:
The quarterback position played an integral role in the 49ers’ 2018 season, Jimmy Garoppolo played questionably for the first 3 games of the season, he was good but not as good as he was when he took the 49ers on a 5 game win streak at the end of 2017, in the 3rd game of the year against the Kansas City Chiefs, Garoppolo scrambled to avoid a sack and instead of going out of bounds, he decided to keep going and before he made contact with Chiefs Corner Steven Nelson, his knee buckled and he had torn his ACL. 49ers fans mourned the loss of their starting Quarterback, the rest of the season would be led by 2017 3rd round pick C.J. Beathard & 2017 undrafted free agent Nick Mullens.
Jimmy Garoppolo (#10)

Jimmy came out firing early but you can see that the first drive didn’t go great as he forced a pass over the middle on 3rd & 7 to George Kittle when several Vikings were in coverage.

Then you saw Jimmy squeeze on in a tight hole to Garcon over the middle for a first down, a very nice throw through traffic.

Then, just a few plays later, we saw Jimmy put a ball right in Pettis’ bread basket but Trae Waynes was able to get his hand in to break the pass up.

Here was a beautifully schemed up play by Kyle Shanahan that Jimmy makes the pass but Kittle flubs the catch, if Kittle doesn’t drop the pass, with his YAC ability, it could have been a very large gain.

Here is one of the “worst” plays of Jimmy’s game, in reality it’s not as bad at it looks because the Wide Receiver, Kendrick Bourne (#84) runs the wrong route and Mike Hughes (#21) picks it off and takes it back for six.

Here is another beautifully schemed up throw, this time to fullback Kyle Juszczyk (#44).

Here is a play where Jimmy gave Pierre Garcon (#15) a great chance to go up and get the ball but Pierre couldn’t do it, it was good placement by Jimmy though.

I think this is easily the best throw of Jimmy’s day, you can see his arm talent on full display as he rolls away from pressure and throws a dime in the back of the end zone to Pettis (#18).

Here is one of his worst throws of the day, he slightly overthrows Pettis on the slant and Xavier Rhodes makes an athletic one handed interception to make him pay for it. Also, what a hit by Kittle…..

Here is also one of Jimmy’s worst plays as he tries to force a pass over the middle and Harrison Smith picked it and clinched the game for the Vikings.

Here is a beautiful pass over the middle to Dante Pettis (#18) for a large gain.

Here is another pass that was fired a little too high over the middle for George Kittle.

Here is just a little flip pass to Kendrick Bourne (#84) for the touchdown.

Jimmy goes over the middle to Garrett Celek (#88) for the Touchdwon, his second of the day.

Here’s a play that could have cost the 49ers the game as Jimmy predetermines where he will go with the ball and Tracy Walker breaks on the route and picks it off but there was a holding on Quandree Diggs in the secondary so the interception was called back.

Here Jimmy takes advantage of a busted coverage to drop a beauty into Kyle Juszczyk (#44)

Here is Jimmy’s second touchdown, to Goodwin off of a busted coverage.

Here is the play that ended Jimmy’s season, his knee buckles and his ACL is torn because he didn’t run out of bounds.
C.J. Beathard (#3)

Here is a very nice pass to Kendrick Bourne (#84) over the middle for a Touchdown.

This…ain’t so pretty, C.J. trips on the way hand the ball to Breida and it could have cost them big time.

This is one of C.J.’s better throws, to Kittle (#85) who the takes it for a touchdown.

This is one of the major problems with C.J.’s game, he can’t seem to get rid of the ball he holds it and takes big losses way too much.

This was a really nice pass to Trent Taylor that was on target.

This time Beathard misses the Cardinals defender and Bene Benwikere intercepts it, this one is on Beathard.

This is one of Beathard’s more impressive plays of the season, with a deep bomb to Goodwin (#11) who runs it in for the score.

Beathard again hits Marquise Goodwin (#11) wide open for a 49ers sore, Goodwin’s second of the night.

You can say what you want about the skill of C.J. Beathard but the man gives everything on the field, he will never slide he wants the extra yards, this is just a pure effort play that I love from C.J.

Here Beathard tries to go back to his man Goodwin but he forces the ball downfield and Kevin King manages to intercept it and it cost San Francisco the game.

Here C.J. just badly misfires over the middle to Juszczyk (#44)

Beathard throws a pick over the middle to Troy Hill.

This is the play that encapsulates Beathard’s 5 game losing streak as the 49ers starting Quarterback.
Nick Mullens (#4)

Here Nick takes advantage of a busted coverage for a Pierre Garcon touchdown.

Here is a nice pass over the middle to Kendrick Bourne (#84) for a Touchdown.

Nick Mullens put this ball in the one spot that it had to be for it to be complete…and what a catch by Kittle.

This is a well schemed up and well executed touchdown.
